Local Gymnasts Selected to Represent Australia in Austria this November

Sixteen-year-old gymnast, Ruben Chitters, has been selected to represent Australia at the prestigious Austria Future Cup competition to be held in Linz, Austria on November 24.

The selection comes following a successful competition at the National Clubs Carnival last month on the Gold Coast where Ruben finished second on the Parallel Bars and third on the High Bar.

“Overall I am really happy with my performance at National Clubs. I was really happy that I got to try out my new skills and achieving a personal best all around score was even better,” says Ruben.

Australia will send a team of four junior athletes to the overseas competition many of which will be wearing the green and gold for the first time.

“It has always been a dream of mine to represent my country overseas and I am really excited compete for Australia and make my country proud”, says Ruben.

Currently studying Year 11 at Frankston High School Ruben will prepare for his International debut right in the midst of his VCE exam period.

“My teachers are quite understanding of my situation. I just try to focus on one thing at a time. When I get to the gym I focus on gymnastics and when I am at school I focus on my studies”, he says.

Ruben trains at his local gymnastics club, Dolphin Gymnastics, in Carrum Downs under the guide of Head Coach Nedal Alyousef who has also been selected as an Australian team coach.

“I am so happy that all of Rubens hard work is paying off and I am very proud to represent Australia alongside him”, says Nedal.

Local gymnast, Joshua Walker, has also been named to the four-man team to compete in Austria this November.

“I am so happy to be representing Australia. For Ruben and I to be competing in Austria together is so exciting as we trained together at Dolphin Gymnastics for many years”, says Josh.

Joshua competes for Dolphin Gymnastics Club and currently trains at the Gymnastics Victoria Men’s High Performance Program in Prahran.

Congratulations and good luck to Ruben, Joshua, and Nedal.
